Aimed at the average Bible reader, this commentary has much to offer. Having relatively few bells and whistles, its greatest strength is that it is very straightforward and to the point with few rabbit trails. Whereas many commentaries can veer off the main road and do some sight-seeing on side streets, Hughes keeps the main thing the main thing, namely the plain meaning of the text.
