The book is designed to both historicize and sharpen critical analysis skills in the subject of mass media and Africana studies. 21st Century Africana Media Studies Reader is suitable for courses in media, African-American studies, cultural studies, and women and gender studies. Akil Houston earned his M.A. in international studies, M.F.A. in film production, and Ph.D. in cultural studies in education from Ohio University. He is an associate professor of cultural and media studies at Ohio University. His research draws on the fields of Africology/African-American media, cinema, cultural, and gender studies.
