There are over 17,300 legally established foundations under civil law in Germany. In addition to the pursuit of charitable goals, foundations are consistently developing into an important instrument for succession planning and asset security. The long awaited commentary on the law of foundations takes into account topics such as questions related to the formation of the articles, including the various points of intersection between inheritance law and tax law, and considers the limitations of the legal institution.
