This book present the history of Slavery and forced labour in Mauritius. It tells us how Mauritius was occupied by the Europeans and was converted in to a colony. When slavery was abolished in 1833, the British started a new system called 'Indentured Labour.' The Indian Indentured Labour were brought in Mauritius in 1834. This book presents an overview of the Trade Union movement in Mauritius from its beginning in the 1930s to the present day. It gives a brief description with images and roles played by several people involved.

Notă biografică

Rajpalsingh Allgoo is a well known international trade unionist and a prominent trade union leader of Mauritius. He was born on Aug. 22, 1937 in Mauritius. He is a self-made man who followed a large number of training programs and courses. In 1984 he obtained a diploma in Advanced Trade Union Leadership from the District of Columbia University in Washington, USA. He has participated in many conferences, workshops, seminars and conducted study tours in dozens of countries of the five continents including USA, UK, Bulgaria, France, Portugal, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, India, Iraq, South Africa, China, Japan, Singapore, Australia and most of the African countries. Rajpalsingh Allgoo has occupied the positions of President, Artisans and General Workers Union and President, Mauritius Labour Congress. He also has occupied the Hon'ble positions in many national and international organizations. Rajpalsingh Allgoo has authored five books. He has published several magazines for the AGWU and the MLC, as well as documents on IRA. Labour Act 1975.
