Did you ever wonder what it would have been like to be a fly on the wall or a mouse in the corner in downtown Bethlehem on that first Christmas night when Joe and Mary had traveled many miles, only to be turned down for a place to lay their heads at the local hotel after a slow, exhausting and tedious journey. In 1989 I was pastoring a picturesque little New England church on Lake Winnipesaukee two hours north of Boston in beautiful Wolfeboro, New Hampshire when I wrote a simple kids Christmas story to read one Sunday morning to all the children during the cold winter season. With a gentle pure white snowfall covering the streets and sidewalks, every church window glowed with the warm flame of candles. It was there in the stillness of that little white clapboard church that A Christmouse Tale was born.
