A Cricket of a Girl is historical fiction, set in the tiny Latin American country of El Salvador, in the 1950s and 1960s, prior to the onset of the civil war. Sesi, fourteen years old, is making her way to the capital city, San Salvador, where she is convinced she can make a better life for herself. She tells the story of her journey in a vivid, heartwarming and optimistic manner in spite of the horrors and hardships that life throws at her.
