A Description of Grammatical Features and their Variation in the Black Country DialectThis fascinating sociolinguistic study describes the grammatical features of the dialect spoken by inhabitants of the Black Country area in the West Midlands of England. Basing his work on extensive recorded samples of informants of all ages engaged in natural conversation, the author considers in his analysis which elements of the dialect are most common, which are disappearing from the dialect, and which vary most according to such factors as conversational topic, informants' age, or their social class.
