The Revolutionary War rages in the backcountry of South Carolina in 1781. The people have been forced to choose sides-Loyalist or Patriot. One of these people is local flatboat captain, Luke McQueen. He has chosen to fight for the Loyalist militia. Although troubled about having to take up arms against family members who have chosen the other side, he strongly believes in helping the British win the war. His feelings about his allegiance change abruptly when someone close to him is jailed for helping the Rebels. When Luke realizes the life of his loved one is more important than the loyalty to his monarch, he embarks on a journey to help his new compatriots achieve a victory that could win the war. Standing in his way is Alex Devereaux, a semi-disgraced intelligence officer assigned to the small seaport of George Town, South Carolina. When he learns of an enemy spy operating within the garrison, he will stop at nothing to eliminate the agent. The two men are on a collision course that will bring one destruction, the other victory.
