On of the great ironies noted by author David Kessler is that a US senator who who openly supported the IRA at the height of their terrorism, subsequently became chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security where he was in charge of combating terrorism against the United States. On the one hand, he is tainted by his pro-terrorism credentials.
