Originally published in 1958, this was the first scholarly anglophone history of Spain. It covers the whole story from Spanish pre-history onwards and includes a full treatment of the various states until their fusion as a modern nation, and on through the Civil War until the late 20^th Century. The book explains the origins and development of Spanish society and the special commitments which determined Spanish policies.
