A Horse of a Different Color is a shift from what a reader would normally expect of a story about a boy and a horse. With a winding plot the young boy begins to understand what it means to be part of something much larger than himself, as the horse and its curator become a catalyst to new experiences in his life. Those experiences then function as a reminder to what we all inherently know as true, but often forget.
