Juliana Hutchings, the author of A Horse to Remember, is 17, a junior in high school. She was 14, when she started writing this story, based on a game she played with her older sister, Isabelle, and their model horses. These two sisters are still cooperating with Isabelles pictures illustrating the book and cover.Hutchings grew up on a small horse farm in Landenberg, PA, and has ridden all her life. Her passion is competing in the sport of eventing, which combines dressage, cross country riding, and show jumping. When the heroine of A Horse to Remember learns to ride and compete in these events, Hutchings shares her expert knowledge with the reader so the beat of horses hooves drums in the mind and ears. This high school junior, cares for 15 horses, competes in horse shows, and is also writing a new novel.
Textul de pe ultima copertă
After her family relocates to the small country town of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Hilary Thompson, who has lived in a city the whole thirteen years of her life, feels as if her world has stopped turning. She begins working at the neighboring stables owned by Susan Collins and meets Satan, a wild mustang stallion who seems as lonely and out-of-place in his new surroundings as she is in hers. When Susans son, Jeremy, fails to tame Satan, his mother threatens to sell the horse at an auction where he might end up in a slaughterhouse. Fearful for the future of the beautiful animal, Hilary resolves to tame him. But can a girl who knows nothing about horses gain the trust of an aggressive mustang that no one else has been able to train? Will she be able to keep her efforts a secret? As Hilary spends increasingly more time with him, her affection for the mustang grows, and his develops for her. Through the bond they form, Hilary learns about horses, people, and the greatest lesson of all, unconditional love.
