A Hummingbird Miracle

Autor Patricia Meehan Haynes
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Every Year around May, the mother hummingbird comes back to rebuild the "old home place." It's a wonder, as she has been gone a year. She has traveled thousands of miles, and always knows how to find her way back to the same nest. She tenderly places each piece of material where it should be in rebuilding the nest. This miracle takes place just outside my window where I have taken the photos from. It is amazing to watch the progression from the time she lays her eggs to the hatching of her babies. She cares for them through all kinds of weather, always protecting them. I love to watch her teach them to fly and to see them discover the world for the first time. It is a joy for me, when they have learned to care for themselves They stay for the summer in St. George, UT, and I make sure they have plenty of flowers planted. I hang several feeders of nectar for them. The "hummers" themselves are entertaining, beautiful and sometimes humorous. It is sad to see them leave on their long journey to Mexico and South America, in the fall, but I know I'll see them again in the spring.

I have learned much about life, in taking the time to observe these tiny little creatures. They know just what to do by instinct. I wish it could be that simple for us humans. Perhaps we can take a lesson from all this.

I have been blessed to experience this miracle of the hummingbird returning and rebuilding the same nest for the past 3 years. My hope is that the children who experience this book will learn to love nature, and that they will understand how we as parents love, protect and teach them just as Momma Bird did.
