A Nation to Ruin - Cambodian Republic - Silent No More

Autor Navy Ung-Lancaster
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Take the journey This is a masterly scripted novel relating to all the political ills, still infesting this world today, told from a woman's point of view - and nothing less A Nation to Ruin is based on a true story by the author, Navy Ung-Lancaster. She is one of many who barely survived Cambodian genocide - yet one of a few remaining able to properly recount the actions and real intent behind the founders of the first Cambodian Republic back in 1970. The first half of the story stems from her direct association with her father's influential friends and political colleagues - ministers and generals within the government - during important family outings and secluded meetings from 1969 to 1975, to which she was present. Navy's tale begins - told through the eyes of a cute ten year old - slightly precocious girl and continues on through her puberty into adolescence. Her eye for detail is apparent from the start. The entire narrative is a total account - once and for all exposing the promises - deceptions and actions taken by an array of important political leaders, including all the military factors effecting the period, such as: King Norodom Sihanouk, his cousin, Prince Sisowath Sirik Matak, Prime Minister Lon Nol, Chairman Mao, President Nixon, National Security Advisor Kissinger, the CIA - the U.S. Military's long failed attempts in Vietnam - the NVA - the virtuous Red Cross - the ineptitude of the U.N. - the reckless B52 bombings that led to the rise of the red Chinese backed deviationist, Pol Pot and his dreaded Khmer Rouge, including the bloody genocide that followed. Her father, a minister in King Sihanouk's Royal court was a rich well-respected businessman due to his lucrative contracts with Royal Dutch Shell and Texaco, as an oil and gasoline transporter. But North Vietnam's incursion into Cambodia's eastern borders soon threatened to destroy all the positive innovation and progress he along with others had established. Consequently, by 1969, Cambodia's near peaceful interlude was totally disrupted, particularly throughout its eastern provinces. Cambodia's future grew dark. War loomed. King Sihanouk refrained from intervention. Left with no other choice, a few prominent men like her father - braver than most arose, fashioning themselves after the old Republicans who had once helped form and maintain the United States of America - men who were in dire hope of convincing the King to choose a wiser path...
