P. Kinsella and the acclaimed film based on that book, Field of Dreams. The novel and movie focus on the legendary baseball player Joe Jackson, better known as "Shoeless Joe". A member of the Chicago Black Sox, Joe was forced to leave the team, and the game of baseball, after the 1918 scandal in which he and seven other Black Sox players were accused of throwing the World Series for money. Anyone familiar with the novel or movie knows, however, that this story is not just about baseball. It also is about coming to grips with one's past and the power of believing in dreams.
