A Peculiar People

Let's be honest; Jesus says some strange and rather offensive things. Remember, 'If you don't hate your life, you can't be My disciple""? Or how about, 'Love those who abuse you""? Strange and offensive seems like an awful way to describe a Savior of love. However, wouldn't normal and understandable be far worse? If Jesus' love were understandable, it wouldn't be any wiser than ours. If it were normal, it could never amaze, challenge, or change us. We need a love so beyond our comprehension that it seems not only strange but outrageous.

When it comes to Jesus' love, strange just means deep. Strange waters are those so far out, we rarely tread them. But this book dares to. Like any waters, starting with our feet touching the bottom, and as it slopes, diving deeper and deeper to reach it. Swimming the far reaches of love's peculiar waters will make you stronger. Touching new levels of their ever-descending bottom will bring you deeper. And being immersed in their strange ways will make you more peculiar."
