A Promise to Keep

It's the uncertain years of World War II, but school is out for the summer, and thirteen-year-old Buddy and his pals have plans: swimming, exploring, camp outs, freedom from the watchful gaze of adult eyes...

However, their schemes are put on hold when the boys encounter human skeletons in an abandoned mineshaft-and hear someone enter the mine behind them. Fearful for their safety and the welfare of their loved ones, they vow not to tell anyone about their discoveries.

But when they stumble on something even more terrifying, they realize they have to go to the authorities. Their report leads to a police investigation, and the community is shocked when the detectives conclude they've found the victims of a serial killer.
