The Judiciary Act of 1789 created the Supreme Court, which was given the exclusive jurisdiction over all civil actions within the United States. In its 229 years of existence, it has made various decisions that have defined the Supreme law of the land. As the interpreters of the law, they act as the guardians of liberty and justice.
