At times he covers large distances on foot without so much as a compass and frequently rests his head in a variety of extraordinary places. He is the first outsider to stay a night with members of the Arhuaco tribe in Columbia. Kidnapped for some hours and often mugged, his sense of adventure is never dimmed.
