Abu' Alifes Bulan

Autor Otto I. M. S. Nekitel
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 29 apr 2015
Abu' (sometimes pronounced as Ambu') is a member of the Alifes (Arapesh) language family of the Kombio stock of the Torricelli phylum. It is a Papuan or non-Austronesian language, spoken by about 7,000 people who claim to belong to the Abu' ethnic community. They live in nine main villages amidst the tail-end of the Torricelli and the onset of the Prince Alexander ranges in the central Sepik region of northern Papua New Guinea. The area occupied by the Abu' is situated amidst the towns of Wewak, Aitape, Maprik and Drekikir. The data relied upon for the development of this triglot dictionary were drawn from the author's personal knowledge of the language as well as that provided by Gertrude Deimbule' Nekitel and several other Abu' speakers such as Gabriel Sunaki and Mathew Ouniteri. The material presented is drawn mostly from the Abu' Womenika (Upper-Abu') dialect as was spoken in the 1990s. Some comparative notes are made of dialect differences between Abu' Womenika and Abu' Ounibisima (A.O.) low Abu'. Entries from A.O. are limited only to some of the most commonly used words.
