'The ASK Box would be a useful addition to the bookshelves of any research group or teaching team with new and developing researchers. It would be helpful for any department wanting to support its members in the development of their careers. It would also be useful for any senior institutional manager (who may have been an academic themselves) as a reminder of what they as established academics may have forgotten - the complex. Competitive and increasingly tortuous process of becoming an academic.' - Educate

Recenzii
`The ASK comprise a very friendly, comprehensive and approachable set of texts that read like a series of conversations with an informed and knowledgeable insider. These are texts that delicately communicate with a potentially diverse audience - from the novice academic to the hoary handed Ac. Hack... I have encountered comprehensive and comprehendible information, alongside sensible, practical strategies and exercises, that I will be able to employ when developing my own academic career and to facilitate my staff development and peer mentoring work' - Sandra Sinfield, London Metropolitan University
`The Kit is excellent. And it is not just for academic starters either. This is a collection of books which every academic could refer to confident that she or he will benefit from the experiences shared, the perspectives offered and the advice given.... The Kit is laudably sensitive to issues of race, class, sexual orientation and disability and to the different contexts which academics working across the world encounter.... I read these books with pleasure and enjoyment. The writing style is very fluid and readable, a particularly fine achievement for a collaborative writing project of this scope and ambition. I was reminded of a great many things I knew about academic life and had forgotten, and had my eyes opened to new ways of doing things and new ways of thinking which I had not yet come across.
Superlatives aren't always terribly helpful, but in this case, I can do no better than urge academics to take a look at ASK. It is excellent' - Robert Morrell, University of KwaZulu-Natal
`This is an eminently practical guide to getting ahead as a university academic employee. Having been in this line of work myself for a while I recognise the (sometimes rather sad) truth of much of the advice.... These are books that are largely targeted to those at the start of their academic careers, though I expect people further on in their careers will take some pleasure and benefit from dipping into the pages of some of the books, as I have done' - Clive Seale, Brunel University
