Community Empowerment through Servant Leadership
ACTS OF LOVE is a call to individual and collective empowerment in the African American community.
It is 2020, the year of the 21st century civil rights movement: police brutality, social unrest, protests, and #BLACKLIVESMATTER, in addition to a pandemic disproportionately affecting African Americans across the country. People are asking where are our leaders? Where is todays Martin Luther King Jr. who will speak for all of us? Who will help us address the issues we face?
ACTS OF LOVE has the answers in this action guide for leadership within the community. The book promotes the principle of servant leadership, to lead is to serve, by advocating for the people in your neighborhood, on your block, you, to be change agents. Who better to find effective ways to make life better and safer for family, friends, and neighbors rather than one nationally known person?
ACTS OF LOVE is a history lesson, told through the stories of four Black men who put their work, their faith, and their lives on the line to call out injustices and give African Americans the courage and the tools to speak up and speak out.
This is our moment. This is our time for empowerment through ACTS OF LOVE.

Notă biografică
Berlin L. Kelly. Born in Harlem, NY, his identity was shaped by the city of his birth with its rich culture in music, fashion, writing, and community togetherness. His passion for uplifting the members of the African American community developed in his youth as he watched local leaders often successfully challenge the status quo, especially during the civil rights movement. Berlin used his skills, education, and leadership training to work as a policy maker and educator, fueling his mission to teach community empowerment. He wanted people to identify and own their personal and collective power. He believed that our greatest strength lies within us and supersedes what any one public figure could do, no matter how charismatic they were or who appointed them to be the leader. His greatest joy was talking with people, whether individually or in groups, about opportunities to be change agents and make a difference in the world.
