Local authority responsibilities toward children and families change substantially at the point of adoption, as the local authority supervisory role is transferred in total to the new parents. However, children placed from care beyond infancy are likely to have multiple problems, and families often require professional or other support over time to help deal with persistent difficulties. This book clarifies which services are now available, and offers users' perspectives and knowledge of current Government policy, plus guidelines on how services could be improved.
