Duke Speed is the Founder and Director of The Kopis Center for Law Enforcement and Security Solutions, a veteran-owned small business that specializes in the delivery of operationally-proven security consulting and training services, domestically and internationally. Strategically located near Washington, DC, with satellite locations in California and South Carolina, Kopis works in tandem with career federal law enforcement special agents, military special operations forces, homeland defense, and public safety professionals to deliver turnkey and customized solutions for environments that require situational awareness, rapid response to threats, and crisis mitigation and resolution. From 2009 to 2014, Speed was employed by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); Cheltenham, Maryland, where he served as the Program Manager, Course Developer, and Senior Instructor of all Executive Protection Operations Training for 90-plus federal law enforcement and intelligence organizations in the National Capital Region. Additionally, he served as a Senior Instructor and Instructional Systems Design (ISD) Specialist in the Tactics/Physical Techniques and Advanced Weapons Branches. Shortly following the tragic events of 9/11, Speed was employed by the U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service and served as the Senior In-Service Training Instructor for the Los Angeles Field Office. Additionally, he has been employed as an independent contractor for various private sector companies, including service in Iraq as a U.S. Department of State contractor for the Worldwide Personal Protective Services (WPPS) program; the Fluor/FEMA Katina/Rita IATAC Project; and the U.S. Navy Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Training Program. Speed is a 20-year active-duty veteran (retired) of the U.S. Marine Corps with leadership, operational, and training assignments in Force Reconnaissance, Division Reconnaissance, Special Operations Training Group, Infantry, Aviation, Inspector General, and Recruiting organizations. He is certified as a Reconnaissance Marine (8654), Military Freefall Parachutist, Jumpmaster, Combatant Diver, Dive Supervisor, Scout Swimmer, Assault Climber, Mountain Leader, Helo-Cast Master, Rappel Master, Fast Rope Master, SPIE Master, and Close Quarter Battle/Dynamic Assault Instructor. Speed has a Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude) in Criminal Justice from National University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, playing the drums and guitar, mountain biking, hiking, and working with charitable causes involving children, veterans, and rescue animals.
