Description
This is a comprehensive review of elbow surgery from arthroscopy to reconstruction that is accompanied by online access to nine videos to further illustrate selected procedures. The first edition was published in 2007.
Purpose
Although the authors never specifically outline the purpose of their book, from my perspective it appears to be to review the major pathology facing elbow surgeons and the current treatments for each. This is a worthy objective. The accompanying videos, when available, enhance the chapters they are associated with.
Audience
This book is appropriate for current and future elbow surgeons, and it certainly meets the needs of this audience. Chapters are authored by leaders in their respective fields.
Features
The book is divided into four sections to cover the entire spectrum of elbow surgery: arthroscopy, enthesopathy and tendon rupture, arthroplasty, and post-traumatic reconstruction. It seems to cover the most common pathology that is evaluated by any surgeons treating patients with elbow conditions. Chapters outline indications, contraindications, and outcomes for each surgical intervention. They then provide a step-wise description of the surgical procedure in bullet point format and rehabilitation. Some chapters are associated with videos that illustrate the points the authors are making.
Assessment
Overall, this is a great resource for elbow surgeons, new and experienced. It is a needed update of techniques and information of the prior edition of almost 10 years ago.
