Schutzhund at the advanced level is a difficult, demanding sport. The competition is keen and many of the competitors are in law enforcement and protection work.The United Schutzhund Clubs of America (one of the main sanctioning bodies for the sport) currently supports more than 200 full member clubs, with 14 affiliated clubs in 11 regions across the United States. During the 2001 trial season, member clubs conducted 260 Schutzhund trials. overall, there are more than 300 Schutzhund trials a year in the US, and the USCA sanctions three major national championships. It also sends a team to the World Championship, which attracts competitors from about 20 countries.

Notă biografică
Ivan Balabanov is a three–time member of the USA World Schutzhund Team, and has bred, trained and coached many dogs to National and World Championships at the Schutzhund III level. Karen Duet is a co–founder of Kingsden′s Kennels and K–9 Companions–K–9 Security and Detection International LLC. She and her husband are trained security agents, and train home and business protection dogs. Karen competes in Schutzhund and Ring Sport.
