Notă biografică
Lucila Candela is professor at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering and
Geoscience-UPC (Barcelona, Spain). Her research topics mainly address the nature and
fate of contaminants in the subsurface, laboratory process studies on contaminant transport
in porous media, and groundwater hydrology.
Iñaki Vadillo is researcher and lecturer at the Department of Geology, University of
Malaga (Spain). He is investigating the understanding of hydrochemical processes of
contaminants in aquifers (Nitrate pollution, landfills, isotope application in groundwater
pollution studies).
Francisco Javier Elorza is professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics in the
Madrid School of Mines – UPM (Madrid, Spain). His research topics mainly address
the numerical simulation of the nature and fate of contaminants in the surface and the
subsurface, stochastic modelling of environmental problems (i.e. transport in porous and
fracture geological media) and the simulation of coupled processes in porous media.

Descriere
The book covers methodologies and indicators to reach a better understanding of biogeochemical processes as a basis for environmental models. The combined use of the process understanding and modeled prognoses points water managers towards better management of water resources. The methodologies and case studies offer a valuable reference set for hydrogeologists, the research community, practitioners in government and public institutions, and students of the sub-surface environment. The book will be a valuable reference for graduate students, researchers and professionals in government and public institutions, and for those interested in soil and groundwater contamination in various aspects.
