Recenzii
This book provides a welcome overview of many aspects of this debate and opens up stimulating broader frames of reference and comparative discussion.
[A]n important new book....this major contribution to our understanding of the history of both ideas and economic development casts welcome light on a number of related themes, ranging from the role of technology to attitudes about the natural environment.
This is a cautious, measured and highly informative book. It argues effectively against easy generalization and the necessity for understanding how knowledge travels.
Agricultural Enlightenment displays the qualities of an historian in complete command of his subject thanks to a fruitful career of primary research and study of the scholarly literature. Jones shows, through his careful reconstruction of the evidence, that, in the face of roughly the same slow rates of urbanization and industrialization, agricultural growth only took place in England and Holland.
