Agricultural Policy and Resource Use: the case of Cassava Industry

Autor Benjamin Asogwa, Joseph Umeh
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 mai 2012
Favourable agricultural policy direction in the Nigerian cassava sub-sector encouraged cassava development leading to a new orientation in research-extension-farmers linkage. Interestingly, raising productivity per area of land is the key to effectively addressing the challenges of achieving food security as most cultivable land has already been brought under cultivation. Moreover, physical and technological constraints prevent large-scale conversion of potentially cultivable land. Nevertheless, policy packages that can enhance resource-use efficiency of farmers in farm production are crucial to raising agricultural productivity effectively, and hence addressing the challenges of achieving food security. Incidentally, only very little empirical literature exists on the policy options for raising farmers' resource-use efficiency in agricultural production. This book, therefore, provides a useful guide on the policy options for raising farmers' resource-use efficiency in agricultural production. This book should help shed some light on the dividends of efficient farm management in a friendly policy environment, and should be especially useful as a guide for food security policy.
