After a childhood marred by her mother's sudden disappearance, Alexa has no interest in the inheritance left to her by Lydia Gilbert. Noel Montgomery, Lydia's close friend and confidant in her living years had made a deathbed promise to his friend; he would move heaven and earth to convince Alexa to travel to Santa Teresa and learn the truth of her mother's life. Meantime, as they search for the journals, Noel falls deeply in love with Alexa, who resists returning his love.
