Originally published in 1932, this book is based on a series of lectures delivered in Cambridge in 1931. The views of the universe as held by the great teachers of Ancient Alexandria are discussed: Philo, Clement, Origen, Plotinus and the Gnostics are considered and their outlook compared and contrasted with certain phases of early 20^th Century scientific opinion.
