en Limba Engleză Paperback – 16 iun 2023
What elements of contemporary American life contribute to the United States having the greatest number and highest share of public mass shootings around the globe? The editors and contributors to All-American Massacre seek to answer this question by exploring how masculinity, racism, politics, media, fame, education, gun culture, and mental health influence the causes of mass shootings in the United States.

Bringing together pioneering scholars, this groundbreaking compilation of research and analysis identifies the social roots of this insidious threat and prompts new reflections on how we can stop the seemingly endless cycle of horror and death.All-American Massacre helps clarify the unique nature and salience of mass shootings in American life.

Recenzii

"A useful work of scholarship in documenting American lethality."Kirkus Reviews
All-American Massacre is an invaluable exploration of the culture and institutions that underlie America’s gun violence epidemic. Mass shootings in our country are like an earthquake, causing death and injury at the epicenter with dramatic ripples reverberating outwards. This public health crisis affects children’s learning in school, changes communities forever, and steals peace of mind from Americans across the country in places where we shop, worship, work, and relax. This book is a sober but deeply worthwhile read.”Sarah Burd-Sharps, Senior Director of Research, Everytown for Gun Safety
“A novel and vital contribution, the editors and contributors to All-American Massacre provide a critical examination of the influence of American culture on the prevalence of mass murder in the United States. This timely and necessary book is an essential reference for violence scholars and policy makers, and offers the most comprehensive, explanatory text on the study of mass murder in American society to date.”Taimi Castle, Director of the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence
"This edited collection attempts to better understand the factors that contribute to the US having the greatest number and highest share of public mass shootings in the world. Recognizing that this is a uniquely American problem, editors Madfis and Lankford provide a critical examination of mass shootings through the lens of American culture, institutions, and social structures.... The chapters are well written and referenced and include both qualitative and quantitative research.... An excellent addition to sociology and criminology collections. Summing Up: Recommended."—Choice
