Set in the early 1970's in a small town in eastern Washington State, the story shines a spotlight on four resilient women who would never have become friends, had it not been for their love of singing. These women find friendship, new love, startling life changes and a zest for adventure, as they traveled and performed around the country. Then, when they become somewhat famous, they began to set aside their responsibilities to their families, discovering that there is more excitement to life than the humdrum daily routine of home, husbands and children. Soon their personal frailties become evident as their lives become ever more entwined and each singer discovers the others' shocking dark secrets. Through singing and the true meaning of friendship they are able to stand together and face the difficulties of real life.
