This new dictionary attempts to fulfill an important research desideratum: the complete coverage and description of the vocabulary of glosses. The 12 volumes with a total of some 30,000 articles on individual words assemble over 258,000 references, all of which have been verified on microfilm and/or by autopsy. They are subjected to thorough morphological and semantic investigation and defined as precisely as possible. The glosses relate to a huge variety of words from Latin, Late Latin, the Carolingian era, and the period extending to 1300 (and sometimes beyond). Additional indexes list the relevant libraries, manuscripts, editions, old English words, etc., and the Latin words glossed.
