An Immigrant Song

Autor Kevin J. Bitter
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 16 noi 2015
An eighteen-year-old Yugoslavian boy from a small village in the valley is unwillingly drafted as a soldier in a communist army, is wounded, and emigrates to the United States to live with his dignitary uncle who happens to be the Yugoslavian Consulate in Chicago. He is culturally shocked upon arrival-the size of O'Hare Airport, the big city, the big cars, and American wealth. He eventually moves to New Orleans to live and work in a machine shop belonging to his uncle's friend. He learns to speak English and through a series of events captures his version of the American dream for almost twenty years. At forty years old, the mother of his two children spitefully calls US Immigration to report him for an expired visa. This sent his life into a spiral and the struggles of going to a country Louisiana jail for nine months, then forcibly shipped back to European socialism after living half of his life enjoying capitalism in the Land of the Free. The story is true. It is based on Kevin J. Bitter Sr.'s close friend Zack. This is Zack's story-Zack lived it and struggled to return to his family and the America he loved. He would not have survived without the Lord's help.
