Ancient Eats is simply an extraordinary journey of time and taste. Dr. Mike, physician, chef and America s foremost culinary interventionalist takes you on an incredible expedition into the bowels of some of the world s greatest civilizations and empires. No single person, and certainly no society, can achieve their full potential while suffering from disability and disease. Recent scientific evidence continues to reinforce the nutritive strength of these ancient cuisines. But then, even more so than now, food and the act of dining were much more than subsistence nourishment. Then, as now, people craved taste and sought out flavor and spice; for the experience of the repast and fellowship nurtured the soul in celebration and sustained it through dark times. It was a cuisine for both body and soul that propelled achievement in art, engineering, philosophy, science and combat that still leaves us in wonderment today. Today, we exist in arguably the most technologically advanced and complex social structure the world has ever seen; but we have not gotten here without paying a price. Today we find ourselves beset with the Modern Western Diet. It is a dead diet; foodstuffs artificially preserved, over processed, pre-prepared and prepackaged. It is overly energy dense and nutritionally bereft. Through discordance and displacement it delivers us unto the disabilities and diseases of modern civilization; fraught with imbalance and inflammation. Accumulating modern scientific evidence continually points us backwards in time for the answers to such a dietary dilemma. What did the ancients eat? How did they prepare it? Where did they source their foods? Why did it sustain them? Now for the first time anywhere, Ancient Eats explores the food that fueled the great civilizations and empires and how those insights provide a window into where we have lost our way. Ancient Eats is a descent into the belly of the beast that will forever alter your culinary perceptions."
