Angel Walk: Nurses at War in Iraq and Afghanistan

Autor Sharon Richie-Melvan Ph.D., Diane Vines Ph.D.
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 mar 2010
Angel Walk reveals the untold stories of the men and women who have fought for the lives of the wounded. The valiant soldiers fighting in the jungles of Vietnam, or the courageous men and women combating in the heat of Afghanistan are not the only heroes within the US military. It is easy to remember those on the battlefront, but easy to forget about the brave men and women behind the scenes taking care of the sick and wounded. Angel Walk: Nurses at War provides a unique perspective into the hearts and minds of US military nurses. It sheds light on the experiences, trials, and tribulations nurses faced in the Vietnam War to the War in Iraq. Dr. Sharon Richie-Melvan describes the lifestyle and living accommodations of nurses and their patients. She delicately retells the horrific stories of mass casualties, amputations, and death experienced by veterans and individuals in active combat duty. During the Vietnam War about 24 percent of soldiers died from their wounds. Since the start of combat seven years ago in Afghanistan the number of deaths has fallen dramatically to 10 percent. The author reveals the fears, reactions, and coping mechanisms used by nurses in the line of duty. A veteran nurse in the US military, Dr. Sharon Richie-Melvan voices compassion and empathy for those who are still healing and caring for the wounded, and those who will always remember what it was like to be a nurse in the military.
