Radiation leads to generation of free radicals and various reactive oxygen species (ROS). These free radicals are responsible for causing oxidative stress in the biological system. To protect biological targets from radiation induced oxidative damage, antioxidants must react with radicals and other reactive species faster than the biological substrates do. To counter the lethal effects of radiation researchers are now exploring various Plants and Microbes that have radical scavenging ability.
