Applying Maths in the Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences: An example-based approach

Autor Godfrey Beddard
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 3 sep 2009
How do vectors help us work out the conformation of DNA or proteins? How do matrices help us tackle problems in quantum mechanics? What have differential equations to do with molecular dynamics, or the spread of disease? The use of mathematics is one of the most powerful tools available to a chemist. Applying Maths in the Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences shows why, using an extensive array of examples to demonstrate how mathematics can be applied to probe and understand chemical and biological systems. The use of maths as tool in contemporary research has been enhanced through the use of computer software. Applying Maths mirrors current practice by embedding the use of software into the text, showing clearly to the student how the use of maths and the use of software now go hand-in-hand.The application of maths has given us fresh insights into chemical and biomolecular systems, and has pushed forward the boundaries of our understanding. Applying Maths in the Chemical and Biomolecular Sciences is the perfect resource to help you master the skills required to study these systems, and broaden your own understanding.Online Resource CentreThe Online Resource Centre features the following resources for registered adopters of the text:- Figures from the text in electronic format, for use in lectures- Solutions to half of the problems presented in the book (with all other solutions presented in the book itself)- A guide tailoring the book for users of Mathematica

Recenzii

It is particularly useful for Scientists applying mathematical techniques to their analyses. However, professionals in other fields (e.g. Economics and Finance) will also find the mathematical techniques highly useful and relevant. I myself am an Economist, and found the mathematical content very good, and the scientific applications very illuminating.
Very well written and the perfect resource for self study.
