Arabian Dreams

My story takes place in the desert lands of Arabia among the golden sand dunes of a once-barren land that is now home to the tallest building in the world, elaborate shopping malls filled with designer shops, and luxury cars racing down the famous Sheikh Zayed Road.

In August of 2011, my best friend and I landed in Dubai to start new jobs. Men in long, crisp white Condoras and women hidden behind black Abayas and the veil swarmed around us and swept us into an entire new world. Many challenges and adventures awaited me once in Dubai. From overcoming language, cultural, and religious differences, to finding adventure in the desert and love from an unexpected place, my journey will bring you into a whole other world.

Despite the good times and good friends made along the way, another side of Dubai revealed itself. A dark side filled with modern-day slavery, oppression, lack of freedom of speech and expression, and injustice for the poor and oppressed could not be overlooked any longer.

Arabian Dreams shares my personal journey through all the ups and downs, good times and bad, laughter and tears, and also serves as a stark warning for anyone considering living in Dubai.
