New Hanover has a long and exciting history with many twists and turns. It is separated from New Ireland by a relatively short stretch of reefs and low-lying islands known as the Tigaks. Given the close proximity their residents share a range of mutual historical experiences. Equally, New Hanover has also followed some unique historical pathways of its own. Based primarily in archaeological data this pamphlet outlines some possible histories of New Hanover.
