Architecture

Autor Luca Molinari
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 16 aug 2011
This is a masterful and richly-illustrated guide to the movements and lively styles that marked the twentieth century. This book examines the international architectural culture throughout the twentieth-century—a historic period that, perhaps more than other periods in human history, produced innovation, utopias, ideas and projects that strongly shifted our way of living and thinking. The twentieth-century was the great triumph of modernity at all levels of human life on a global scale, and as such, architecture and its leading players were called upon to radically rethink architectural tools, language and ideas. This book thematically brings together the movements, authors and key works that played a significant role in thinking and producing in fundamental and original ways. This includes subjects such as: the origins of the Modern with the English Arts and Crafts Movement and the German Werkbund; Futurism; Soviet culture; the Bauhaus and the diverse tendencies of the Modern Movement in the first half of the 1900s; the Second World War and reconstruction; CIAM; Brutalism; Nordic Empiricism and Neo-realism; and then, radical culture; Neo-Rationalism; Post-Modernism; Deconstructionism; and Minimalism. The material continues through to the present day where—as current movements are not recognizable—key words are offered to the reader, such as Neo-Vernacular, Ecotopia, and the Neo-International Style.
