5,201 years ago, in this 4th book of the Raising Up Pharaoh epic, the three scout patrols witness their allies subjugate the city whence came the conspiracy to overthrow their kings. The patrols complete reconnaissance of their new nation's destination aboard allied ships, then return to their king at the Oasis of Hope. The route is chosen and the people prepare for departure on the first day of spring. A patrol on their perimeter discovers several thousand refugees fleeing an army. After the new nation's army routs the slavers, the rescued people join their liberators. On the eve of departure, assassins penetrate the Oasis of Hope intent on killing the king. They fail. Should the king delay departure to destroy this new enemy, or is there a better way to respond? Thus continues the six-novel romantic adventure chronicling the origins of the city-states in the Fertile Crescent at the dawn of written history, and the planting of the longest lasting civilization and cultural roots of today's world. The series is written for readers of all ages. The tone is controlled by zooming back to avoid close-ups of violence or sexuality, yet without stripping its intensity. The story unfolds through the viewpoints of the teenagers, the couple, others drawn to them, and their foes. The setting of this fourth book extends from the southwestern Iraqi desert through Saudi Arabia to Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, the Nile Delta and Mediterranean coast of Egypt. In later books, the setting expands across the Middle East and North Africa. Each book has its own maps. The diverse cast speak a pidgin of proto-Indo-European and proto-Afro-Semitic, which is presented in U.S. English.
