nearly everyone has used aspirin at some time in their lives, but few know that a related compound derived from willow bark has been used to relieve pain and treat fevers for over 2,000 years. This book contains eight activities for both academic and vocational courses. it has been adapted by the Royal Society of Chemistry from a unit written by David Paterson, and originally produced by the New Zealand Association of Science Educators in conjunction with the Royal Society of New Zealand. The activites can be used singly or as a coherent package in a variety of learning and teaching situations. There are two main sections: - a series of student activities covering both written and practical tasks including preparative/analytical work and problem solving exercises; and - a guide for teachers and technicians giving equipment lists and answers. This book was produced as part of the Royal Society of Chemistry's programme for the support of education in the field of the chemcial sciences.
