Atlas of Lymphoscintigraphy and Sentinel Node Mapping: A Pictorial Case-Based Approach

Editat de Giuliano Mariani, Gianpiero Manca Federica Orsini, Sergi Vidal-Sicart Editat de Renato A. Valdés Olmos
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 23 aug 2016
Although lymphoscintigraphy was originally introduced into clinical routine for identification of the cause of peripheral edema, more recently it has been widely applied for radioguided biopsy of the sentinel lymph node in patients with solid cancers. The procedure is now considered crucial for adequate planning of oncologic surgery in a growing number of cancers. This atlas presents a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases that demonstrate the clinical relevance and impact of lymphoscintigraphy in different pathologic conditions. After introductory chapters on the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of lymphatic circulation, the role of lymphoscintigraphy in differential diagnosis of peripheral edema and characterization of intracavitary lymph effusions is addressed. The principal focus of the book, however, is on the use of lymphoscintigraphic mapping for radioguided sentinel node biopsy in cutaneous melanoma and cancers at a range of anatomic sites. The most commonly observed lymphoscintigraphic patterns are depicted, and anatomic variants and technical pitfalls of the procedure receive careful attention. The role of tomographic multimodality imaging is also considered. The atlas will be an excellent learning tool for residents in nuclear medicine and other specialists with an interest in the field.

Recenzii

From the reviews:
“This new textbook written by leading European protagonists from Spain, Italy and the Netherlands provides a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated review of established and emerging aspects of radionuclide imaging of the lymphatic system. … highly commendable and is recommended as a valuable reference aid for all departments undertaking lymphatic imaging. It is also likely to be of interest to nuclear medicine, radiology and surgical trainees and to other specialists such as radiographers and clinical scientists involved in the provision of nuclear medicine services.” (Andrew Scarsbrook, RAD Magazine, September, 2013)
“The purpose is to provide an ideal learning tool for trainees in nuclear medicine and surgical oncology and for practitioners entering both fields. These worthy objectives are admirably met by this book. … It also should serve as a valuable reference for medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and scientists. … This is an excellent quality book. … This book occupies a unique niche. … highly useful and timely addition to the field.” (Bennett S. Greenspan, Doody’s Book Reviews, July, 2013)
“This atlas presents a collection of richly illustrated teaching cases that demonstrate the clinical relevance and impact of lymphoscintigraphy … . No other book published to date has addressed the issues of lymphoscintigraphy with the same approach as that of this book … . an ideal learning tool, especially for residents in nuclear medicine and for specialists in nuclear medicine who are entering the field, as well as a useful integration aid for residents in surgery (especially oncological surgery) and for surgeons entering the field.” (Antonia Ferraro and Luigi Mansi, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Vol. 40, 2013)
“This Atlas aims to disseminate knowledge about Nuclear Medicine lymphoscintigraphy procedures in the evaluation of the lymphatic system and detection in disease, most of allin cancer. … This book will be greatly appreciated by nuclear medicine physicians, oncologic surgeons, radiologists and trainees in this difficult field.” (Giampiero Beluffi, La radiologia medica, Vol. 118, 2013)
