The fact that Ernst Junger's diary publications of World War II - "Garten und Strassen", "Strahlungen" and "Jahre der Okkupation" - were nothing but straight and unaltered copies of his private records, has been suspected on several occasions. However, a comprehensive description of the revision and publication process has so far been missing. Based on the unpublished private diaries of Junger and his correspondence with his publishers, this study for the first time extensively presents the genesis of Junger's diary publications from that period. It is revealed how strongly deletions, extensions and transcodes shape the textgenetic process from the first transcript to the first print. In addition, it becomes clear under what conditions it was possible to publish Junger's books during the Nazi period, after the end of the war and in the 1950s, respectively.
