Aves, between a "rock" and a hard place

Autor Annella James
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 20 mai 2012
The delimitation process in the Caribbean Sea is a very intricate and complex affair. With the close proximity of the islands to each other, the existence of maritime boundary delimitation agreements between some States, and no agreements amongst others, makes process problematic, especially since the area is a semi-enclosed sea. If the delimitation of maritime boundaries remains ambiguous and uncertain, this can lead to disputes, which may affect good relations between States. ... The focus of this study will be to examine specifically the delimitation of maritime boundaries with the Eastern Caribbean region. Special emphasis will be placed on the ownership and status of a coral formation called Aves under international law and the potential impact of the claim to an EEZ by Venezuela around Aves on the delimitation of boundaries of the Islands.
