If you are afraid to think for yourself, you are also afraid to live. If you are truly worried about the thoughts and opinions of others, it is only because you haven't yet gotten in touch with who you really are. There are various ways of doing that. If you are not going to stand up for what is right, at least learn to stand up for yourself instead because, by doing that, you are adding to the Good of the world, and thereby standing up for what is right. You will hear, at one point or another, that very few people with an addiction problem will live, or get sober. That may be true, according to statistics, but it is a solemn duty of mine to hold onto the will of God by saying that there is definitely hope. In the third step, I "made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God," and by doing that, I also had to turn my will and life over to Truth. The truth, in this case anyway, is that you can do it, if you're currently afraid or struggling. There are many people in the world that can, and will, open the door for you, but you have to walk through it. If you do the footwork, as my teacher says, God will take care of the rest. But only you can do the footwork. God is not going to knock on your door tomorrow and hand you a new life. My personal story is not common and I certainly do not say that to brag. I say that to merely stress to anyone struggling with addiction the severity of your current predicament. I also say that to stress to anyone that does not struggle with any kind of addiction because, chances are, you're not doing what your soul tells you to do, you're doing what someone else said you should do. But, again, you can do this. You just have to do it.
