Patrick, Jenny, and Kristen have arrived at their summer cottage on Eagle Lake. With their friends, Pete and Mark, they struggle to outwit the evil creatures - witches, punkchopgoons, and water-orcs - who are determined to recruit the kids to the side of evil. The kids are brave and resourceful on their own, but occasionally get help from Elg - the Eagle Lake giant - and the few locals who are aware of the evil forces. Pete's grandpa, Mr. Hudson (an island recluse), and trucker Hughie Graye all support the struggle. This summer the nasties have become even more belligerent than before. Punkchopgoons attack Mr. Hudson on his island. Witches kidnap three young novices who were under the giant's protection. Water orcs attack wearing plastic armour. Jenny and Kristen are caught by the witches to be inducted into the sisterhood, and the boys must find the witches' lair to rescue them. Mum and Dad, meanwhile, are blissfully unaware. While the family has its share of summer fun - swimming, canoeing, fishing, hiking, and roasting marshmallows - the kids are preoccupied with the mystery and power of their magical amulets, and the fate of the young novice witches.
