Ayse Zisan Furat, M.A., PhD. Istanbul University, Faculty of Theology, zisanfurat@yahoo.com Dr. Furat currently works as an assistant professor of Religious Education at Istanbul University. She holds a B.A. degree in History of Science as well as an associate degree in Theology. She gained her PhD in Religious Education at Istanbul University in 2008. Her research interests include the Balkans after the Berlin treaty, the formation of religious authorities in ex-Ottoman territories and education policy. Hamit Er, M.A., PhD. Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Faculty of Theology, her3367@hotmail.com Dr. Er received his B.A. degree in Theology in 1989 from Marmara University, Istanbul. After completing his M.A. (in 1992) and PhD (in 1998), he started to work as an assistant professor at Canakkale University, Faculty of Theology where he currently holds his Professor position. Modernization and Ottoman education is among his academic interests.
